UBUNTU
The word Ubuntu comes from the Bantu languages of Zulu and Xhosa and means something like “humanity,” “charity,” and “community spirit,” as well as the experience and awareness of being part of a whole.
Why this work is relevant for collectors
“UBUNTU” is the most radical combination of material and motif – an image that grounds spaces and opens them up at the same time.
It is the first work in which the artist not only paints over nature, but with it: mud, bark and branches were scratched, pressed and pulled – an animal-like, physical process that leaves traces instead of brushstrokes.
"UBUNTU" reminds us that we are inextricably interwoven: with each other, with the ground beneath our feet, with all living things.
